Memory based Computers : On the basis of memories, computers are following types.
1. Micro computers :
They are low range of computer in terms of speed capacity of microprocessor. The memory capacity of its microprocessor is 16-152 KB. IBM (International Business Machine) is an Example of microcomputer.

2. Mini computers :
They are designed to support more than one users at a time large storage capacity and high speed. It is generally used for processing large volume of data and hence they are used as servers in local area network. IBM-370, XPS-100 are the example of minicomputers.
3. Personal computers :
They are most popular form of computer used individually or used by the organisation like institutions, offices and small industries. The memory capacity of PC's are 60-80 GB. In most of the PC's, INTEL based Pentium processors are used. Processors having the clock speed of 1.2 GHz are now available in the market. The only limitations of this computer is that it can be used by a single user and hence the name personal computers.
4. Mainframe computers :
The mainframe computers are multi users and multi asking. A mainframe has a very large storage capacity. It processes the data with a speed of BIPS (Billion Instructions per Second). They are manufactured by the different companies of the world like IBM, Dell, Sun etc.
5. Super computers :
They have multi processing techniques and are built by interconnecting 100s of microprocessor. The storage capacity of a supercomputer is much larger than a mainframe computer. A supercomputer has a very high memory. It's speed is tremendously very high approximately in trillion of instruction per second. These are the largest, fastest and more expensive devices. They are mainly used in defence, weather forecasting, biomedical researches, remote sensing, aircraft design, and other areas of science and technology.
6. Digital computer :
They operate on digit. The data in digital computer is represented in term of binary number i.e 0 and 1 Digital clocks, calculater, digital balance etc are the best example of digital computer.
7. Analog computer :
A computer that represents data by comparing the physical quantities such as power, voltage are called analog computers. An analog computer works fast in comparison to digital computer.
8. Hybrid computer :
A hybrid computer is made by the combination of good qualities of digital and analog computers.
